Insecurity Destroys Great Lives

I stared at the ground the entire time I was walking around Walmart last week. Why? Because I have to wear glasses instead of contacts for the next 3 months (doctor’s orders).

I’m uncomfortable in them. Probably unnecessarily. But I can’t help it. Getting better but still a work in progress.

Insecurity is always a struggle. Nobody likes to admit they struggle with it. Nobody likes to acknowledge that it exists. And yet, so many people miss out on the potentially great lives ahead of them because of it. They’re so wrapped up in the insecurity of who they are that they subconsciously (or maybe even deliberately) try to live the lives of everyone around them.

It’s so simple to compare our behind the scenes to everyone else’s highlight reels that are so easily accessible to us via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. Pictures of beautiful, smiling families – but not the pictures of the entire family arguing 5 minutes before.

We begin to compare our lives to what appears to be theirs. We go from loving our home to hating it in a matter of seconds. We go from loving the relationship we have with our spouse to thinking that someone else’s relationship is better, and ours is lacking.

If you compare, you’ll always feel insecure about what your life has to offer. Instead of focusing on everyone around you and trying to be like them, focus on yourself, your family, and what it is God has created you to do. Every life is a story. Live your own story, and your life will instantly suck less.
